Drains - Auto drain - Condensate Drain - Timer Drain for Compressed Air

When compressed air systems operate, moisture inevitably forms as condensate. No matter the size of your system, water in compressed air poses a serious threat to both equipment and product quality. That's why a reliable drain is essential for removing this condensate efficiently and automatically. Auto drains, float drains and timer drains are the most commonly used types – each with unique advantages.

Auto drains operate intelligently, discharging only when there's enough condensate, ensuring efficient performance with minimal air loss. Float drains use a mechanical float that opens the drain when water reaches a certain level – completely without electricity. Timer drains, such as those from German brand JORC, discharge condensate at preset intervals and can be adjusted to suit the system’s needs. All of them protect the compressed air system from moisture-related damage, corrosion and breakdowns.

Though small in size, a condensate drain plays a huge role. Choosing the right type extends the life of filters, valves and tools – and ensures stable air quality. It also saves time and energy by avoiding manual draining and system failures.

How Condensate Drains Work – and Why They Matter

Every compressed air system generates condensate – especially when humid air is compressed and cooled. Without proper drainage, this water accumulates in filters, tanks and pipelines, leading to rust, contamination and costly damage. That’s why a condensate drain is not just a detail, but a safeguard for the entire system.

There are three main types of drains: auto drains, float drains, and timer drains.

Auto drains use sensors to detect water levels and discharge only when needed, reducing unnecessary air loss. They're ideal for systems with variable load and moisture levels.

Float drains function mechanically without electricity. A float rises with the water level and opens the valve at the right point. Simple and reliable, float drains are perfect for smaller setups or areas without power.

Timer drains, like those from JORC, open at fixed intervals and are fully adjustable. They suit stable environments with predictable condensate generation. Known for reliability and easy setup, JORC timer drains are a preferred choice in many industrial systems.

Choosing the right drain depends on your system’s size, moisture load, and automation needs. Regardless of type, proper condensate management ensures your compressed air system runs efficiently and remains protected over time.
